The One Where I Add Decorator to My Resume

I enjoy creating well put together spaces, and have really appreciated when the opportunity to get creative with interior design has been presented to me professionally. I recently had the opportunity to stage a suite at Northview’s Vista Apartments in NE Calgary. After initially being tasked with finding a staging company to do the work, the plan pivoted to Northview purchasing new furniture and decor for the suite.

Northview has a long-standing partnership with The Brick - another great Canadian company - to furnish suites where they offer furnished rentals and to offer residents discounts on furniture. With time of the essence to get the show suite ready, I went online and selected the core furniture pieces for a two-bedroom suite based on what was in stock, and would work well with the vision of not only staging but also being able to rent the unit as a furnished suite in the future.

While the key pieces were delivered and installed by our onsite team, I headed to HomeSense and Ikea with my corporate credit card.

Now while I enjoy decorating, I don’t really enjoy shopping, so some one-stop shopping made the most sense to me here. I was able to pick up the items I needed to cosy up two bedrooms, bring some life to the living areas and even add some personal touches to spaces like the laundry and bathrooms. And did it all within my budget.

This decorated space will help potential residents envision themselves living at Vista - ready to host dinner parties, settle in for a movie night, or sleep in on a Sunday morning.

A successful pivot, I’d say!
