Don't Let Summer Slow Down Your Pipeline

It's busy season! Summer jobs are stacked, and maybe the last thing on your mind is posting on Instagram or sending out email newsletters. You're booked, so why bother with marketing right now? Because the contractors who go quiet in summer are the ones scrambling for work in October.
Marketing for contractors isn't just about getting jobs; it's about building a pipeline. Your customers aren’t buying your product every week; they’re planning ahead for big projects. The pipeline is typically 60 to 90 days from first impression to signed contract. If you stop marketing in June, you’re cutting off that timeline.

The "Too Busy to Market" Trap
Summer is peak season for most trades. Phones are ringing, crews are busy, and revenue is flowing. It feels like marketing can wait.
But here's what's actually happening while you're heads-down on jobs:
Your competitors are staying visible online
Homeowners are planning their fall and winter projects right now
Your Google ranking is slipping because you haven't posted new content
Your referral network is going cold
By the time you notice the slowdown in September, it's already too late to course-correct quickly.
What You Should Actually Be Doing This Summer
You don't need to overhaul your entire marketing strategy; just keep at it! Just like at the gym, consistency compounds over time.
1. Document Your Work While You're Doing It
Summer jobs are your best marketing material. Before-and-after photos, short video walkthroughs, your crew in action - this is where you get your content. Spend five minutes at the end of each job day with your phone, and you'll have months of content from a single week.
2. Ask for Reviews While the Job is Fresh
A happy customer is most likely to leave a review within the first 24-48 hours after a job wraps up. Make a habit of asking. A quick text with a direct link to your Google Business Profile makes it easy. One review a week adds up fast.
3. Keep Your Social Media Alive
You don't need to post every day. Three times a week is plenty. Share a price comparison, a completed project, a tip relevant to the season, or a team member spotlight. Again, consistency matters more than frequency because an active profile builds trust even with people who aren't ready to hire yet.
4. Send One Email a Month
If you have a customer list, use it. A single monthly email featuring a seasonal maintenance tip or a limited-time offer keeps you top of mind when fall renovation season kicks in. Tools like Mailchimp make this a 30-minute task.
5. Check Your Google Business Profile
This is still the best way for people in your area to find you, so it needs to be accurate. Is your profile up to date? Hours, services, photos, contact info? A neglected profile loses jobs to competitors who look more credible.
The goal over the summer is presence.
Your best customers are out there right now, scrolling through their phones, planning projects, and looking for someone they can trust. Are you showing up or is someone else?
Summer is short. Use it to build the pipeline that carries you through the rest of the year. Twenty minutes a day of consistent marketing activity today means a full schedule in November. Stay visible. Stay booked.
